Albany State softball takes two at SIAC Crossover

JASPER, Ala. — The Albany State women’s softball team extended its winning streak to three games at the SIAC Crossover on Friday. The Lady Rams claimed two more wins on the second day, defeating LeMoyne-Owen 15-3 and Tuskegee 8-0.
The pair of victories gave the Lady Rams an 11-14 overall record and a 7-2 league mark.
In the victory over LeMoyne-Owen, Albany State gained the early lead in the first inning and never looked back. Jade Williams scored off Malea Maye’ sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. Then Toni Coleman’s single scored Danielle Turner while Jala Stewart’s RBI double scored Coleman for a 3-0 edge.
In the top of the third inning, the Lady Rams took a commanding lead. ASU scored a 11 runs to take a 14-0 advantage. The game ended in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.
Maye, Turner and Brianna Murillo each recorded two hits and two RBIs. Williams, Coleman and Stewart added two hits apiece. Taylor Clemens was the winning pitcher.
The Lady Rams collected 14 hits, two errors and left eight runners on base.
In the shutout against Tuskegee, Albany State slowly pulled away during the course of the game. Williams scored the first run off a wild pitch in the first inning, while Tiffany Massey added a run in the second for a 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, Maye gave the team a 3-0 lead when she scored off an error. The Lady Rams put the game away in the fourth by scoring five runs and ended the game with the eight-run rule.
Albany State recorded five hits, committed no errors and left four errors on base. Massey was the winning pitcher.
Albany State will finish up crossover action on Saturday. The team will face Spring Hill College at 12:15 p.m. and Lane College at 4:45 p.m.
