Albany State volleyball season gets underway Thursday

ALBANY — The Albany State University Lady Golden Rams will open their volleyball season Thursday at Fort Valley State and the season begins with high expectations.
ASU is picked as the preseason favorite to win the Eastern Division of the SIAC, while Spring Hill College is the preseason favorite to win the conference championship.
The Lady Rams will host Savannah State on Tuesday, Sept. 6 with first serve set for 6 p.m. on East Campus at the Jones Brothers Gymnasium.
ASU sophomore Sydney Melton of Hoover, Ala., was selected as Preseason All-SIAC first-teamer. She was the only Lady Ram selected for preseason honors.
ASU will have nine new faces on the team including Molly Wilson, Jenae Thomas, Madisyn Smith, Alia Gomez, Cierra Keys, Kennedi Wallace, Mary-Katherine Preston, Khamari Trotters and Fallyn Nobles. Also playing for the Lady Rams will be Kamryn Lane, a senior from Lee County High School.
The Lady Rams are coached by Verniece Graham.
