Albany State wins Benbow Invitational

The Albany State Golden Rams took first place in the Benbow Invitational this week, recording a team score of 588. With the win the Golden Rams collects its first regular season title. Host Butler University combined for a team score of 591 secured a second place finish while Northwood University finished for a third place finish with an 600 team total.
Abhinav Walia led the Golden Rams, with a first place finish with a score of 141 while Chase McLain shot an 144 to secure the fourth place spot. Jackson Crandall tied for 16thwith a score of 152 while Pongsakorn Booranakunamanee finished with a tied 22nd spot after he shot 154. Rounding out the scoring for Albany State was Tyler Hanson who recorded a 157 and secured the 34th spot.
Abhinav Walia was named the Individual Champion for collecting a first place finish for ASU.
“This is a big step for our program this week winning against all Division I competition. To be able to go toe to toe against a Big East (Butler University) opponent and come out ahead should prove to the guys they can play against anyone!” said Albany State’s Head Golf Coach Gary Hilton.
The Golden Rams will return to the green on April 15-16 as they travel to compete for the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Championship title in Peachtree City, Georgia.
