ALBANY, Ga. | After sweeping the first two games of a three-game series with Young Harris, the Golden Rams baseball team fell to the visitors 19-1 in the weekend finale.
Runs came early and often for the Mountain Lions as they tagged starter Jordan Griffin (0-1) for four runs on three hits in 1.0 plus innings of work.
Young Harris would go on to score runs in six of the first seven innings with ASU only able to respond in the bottom of the 2nd with an RBI double from Travis Ray Jr.
Ray Jr. finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Saturday the season started better for the Rams when they won the first two against Young Harris.
Game 1
ASU wasted no time getting on the board in their first game as Johnathan Cirullo earned a walk then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. A single moved Cirullo to third and Kevin Bryant II picked up the RBI on a groundout to first base.
After a leadoff single by Avery Roth in the 2nd inning, Quantico Dodson-Williams tripled to right field to make the lead 2-0 in favor of the Golden Rams.
It would be all the host school needed as Roman Oliu (1-0) picked up the win in 5.0 innings of work. Oliu allowed no runs on two hits while striking out two.
Michael Reddick (1) picked up the save for ASU after completing a perfect 9th inning.
Game 2
Travis Ray Jr. broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with a double to centerfield that plated two.
Young Harris struck right back in the top of the 4th scoring two runs on two hits and an ASU error.
A pair of RBI singles from Cirullo and Chasen Roulhac in the bottom the 4th inning put the Golden Rams up for good as they cruised to a 9-2 victory.
Bryant II finished with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored while Roulhac and Ray Jr. both had two RBI apiece.
Malik Barrington (1-0) got the win after working 4.0 innings and surrendering two runs on two hits while striking out five.
Albany State (2-1) is home again next weekend as they host Emmanuel College for a three game series at Golden Rams’ Field at West Campus. Game one is scheduled for Friday, February 8th, at 6:00 pm.
