Albany State’s sports facilities sustain minor damage during storm

ALBANY — Albany State was able to withstand Irma on Monday with minimum damage to the athletic facilities on the east campus.
According to athletics director Sherie Gordon, the track, baseball field and football stadium on the east campus sustained damage, but nothing to prevent Albany State’s teams from suiting up for their respective games this weekend.
The volleyball game that was scheduled for Tuesday was postponed, and the cross county teams are on the road.
Saturday, the Rams’ football team looks to remain undefeated as it hosts North Greenville at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the Albany State women’s soccer team has a 3 p.m. home contest against Keiser University.
Gordon said both games are still set to go as planned.
“We’re looking forward to another busy weekend but exciting weekend for all sport programs,” she said. “Football’s going in ranked 16th in the nation, so that should be a great home game, and hopefully soccer can get their first win this weekend at home.”
In the meantime, Gordon said teams will be able to practice this week, thanks in large part to school officials.
“I would have to say our chief of police did a great job working with city and state officials making sure that not only our student athletes, but the students were safe on campus,” Gordon said.
