All five Albany teams lose in region tournaments

All five Albany teams playing in region tournaments Thursday lost, ending hopes of a region championship.

In girl’s action, Westover lost 55-48 to Hardaway, Two starting senior guards for the Lady Patriots were still out of action because of injuries. Also, the Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights rallied late but fell to Brookwood 62-58.

In boy’s games, Dougherty lost to 6th-ranked Americus-Sumter 76-62 and Westover lost to fifth-ranked Carver 77-64 during the semifinal round of the Region 1-AAAA tournament being played in Columbus at Carver High School. Deerfield Windsor lost to Tiiftarea 63-57 at Georgia Southwestern College in Americus.

The Region 1-AAAA championship will be decided tonight at Carver as Carver will play Hardaway for the girl’s title and then play Americus-Sumter for the boy’s title.

In Americus, Brookwood will face Southland for the girl’s championship and then take on Tiftarea for the boy’s championship.
