TIFTON – Ameris Bank has donated two pieces of undeveloped property located at ABAC’s Forest Lakes Golf Course to the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Foundation.
The property donated by Ameris, which ABAC officials said has been a supporter of the college for more than two decades, will help Forest Lakes Golf Course as it seeks to receive the designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for Golf.
ABAC officials say the the award-winning education and certification program helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf. By receiving the designation, officials said, the course at ABAC will enhance the natural areas and wildlife habitats that the course provides, improve efficiency and minimize potentially harmful impacts of golf course operations.
The property will also expand the teaching and learning environment of the golf course, benefiting both faculty and students within the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources. ABAC officials say the course is an essential learning tool for students in the field of agriculture and is utilized each semester.
