PEACHTREE CITY — The Albany State University men’s golf team captured the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference golf championship on Wednesday afternoon at Flat Creek Golf Course.
“It has always been about building a winning culture,” said ASU head coach Gary Hilton. “To win three championships in all three years of the program’s history is rewarding.”
The Golden Rams shot a final-round 293 and won the championship by 44 strokes over Spring Hill College. Albany State finished the two-day tournament with a 912 to claim its third consecutive title (2017-19). Spring Hill fired a 956 to take second, while Miles College finished third with a 957.
“These guys have worked extremely hard and to win two tournaments this season is proof that we are doing something right,” said Hilton.
Tyler Hanson, who earned All-SIAC First Team, finished in first place with a 221 (74-79-71), while Jackson Crandall and Abhinav Walia both were named to the All-SIAC and finished fifth and eighth with a 235 (78-78-79) and 236 (79-84-73), respectively. ASU’s Player of the Year Chase McLain secured the second place spot with a 227 total score.
With the win, the Golden Rams earned the conference’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Men’s Regional Championship.
