Atlanta United acquires 19-year-old midfielder from Watford

Atlanta United announced today the club had acquired 19-year-old midfielder Dion Pereira from English Premier League club Watford via transfer. He will be added to the club’s roster pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa, according to a press release.

Pereira has spent 10 years in the Watford youth development system and made his EPL debut May 6, 2017 against Leicester City.

“We’re pleased to welcome Dion to the club and look forward to him joining the squad as we head into the 2019 season,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said in a press release. “We identified him as a young, technical player who we believe will adapt well to Atlanta United and MLS.”

He has spent most of the previous three seasons with Watford’s U-23 team in the Professional Development League. Pereira was Watford’s Young Player of the Season for 2016-17 when he made 16 starts in 21 appearances with one goal. He was a feature for Watford last season with starts 27 of his 28 appearances and 13 goals. He made eight starts in nine appearances this season before joining Atlanta United.
