Atlanta United waive veteran McCann

Defending MLS champion Atlanta United waived midfielder/defender Chris McCann on Sunday.
The 31-year-old native of Ireland was one of the club’s original signings, joining on a free transfer from England’s Wigan Athletic in July 2016.
McCann appeared in 45 regular-season games in 2017 and 2018, scoring a goal with two assists. He also made three MLS Cup Playoffs appearances, helping the Five Stripes win the 2018 championship.
Atlanta United will open the 2019 season on the road at D.C. United on March 3.
