ALBANY — A pair of high-profile Georgia High School football products could be heading to other destinations.

Former Lee County High School standout and current Michigan Wolverine Aubrey Solomon announced his intention to leave. Meanwhile, Georgia quarterback Justin Fields announced he will “explore the possibility of a transfer” according to ESPN.

Solomon, a dominant defensive lineman, was the Albany Herald’s 2016 Player of the Year after helping the Trojans to the second round of the Georgia High School Association state football playoffs. The defensive tackle played in eight games as a freshman. He was, however, limited by an injury in 2018.

The sophomore could not be reached for comment.

“I didn’t know he was transferring until about seven hours ago,” Lee County head football coach Dean Fabrizio said Monday night.

One of the state’s top recruits when he signed with Michigan on National Signing Day in 2017, Solomon appeared in 18 games in his career with the Wolverines. As a freshman, he played in all 13 games, finishing with 18 tackles including two for loss.

This season, he had two assisted tackles against Michigan State and four assisted tackles against Indiana. He played on defense and on special teams against Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Penn State.

ESPN ranked him as the No. 63 prospect in the Class of 2017, and he was the No. 7 overall recruit from Georgia.

Multiple media outlets reported that Solomon doesn’t know what schools he will consider, but Georgia, Alabama and USC were schools of interest during his recruitment.

Late Monday night, USA Today reported that Fields intended to transfer according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The No. 2 overall recruit in the Class of 2018 spent the season backing up quarterback Jake Fromm. In limited action, Fields completed 27 of 39 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns. He finished the year with 266 yards rushing on 42 attempts.

The five-star recruit was the top player Georgia coach Kirby Smart signed for the Class of 2018. Fields signed last December and enrolled early. He flashed a lot of potential, but most of his action came in blowout victories. He was the nation’s top dual-threat quarterback and ranked No. 2 overall behind Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence according to 247Sports.

Fields, who played high school at Harrison in Kennesaw Mountain, will likely be the top transfer prospect if chooses to leave. At one time, he was committed to Penn State.

According to USA Today, Fields will likely petition the NCAA to become immediately eligible at his next destination in 2019. If not, he’ll have to sit a year.
