EDISON — Baconton Charter spoiled Pataula Charter’s first varsity football game Friday, routing the Panthers 43-0.

It was the first varsity school in the seven-year history of Pataula. The game was played at Calhoun County High School.

Baconton (1-0) built a 36-0 lead at halftime and cruised to an easy victory.

“I was pleased with how we played,” Baconton Charter coach Johnny Hayes said. “Coach Harrell has done a good job with his players. We’re still growing and they are just starting to grow. We’ve been there, so we know how it is.”

The Blazers (1-0) will jump into Region 1-A play next week when they play host to Pelham at Centennial Stadium in Camilla.

“We’re happy for the victory, but next week we’ve got Pelham,” Hayes said. “It’s going to be a big game. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Pataula (0-1), which is playing a nonregion schedule, is slated to play at Webster County next Friday.
