Basketball Shorts: Albany Monroe, Dougherty both lose after looking ahead?? Lee Co.,Sherwood, Calhoun all win

Were No. 3-ranked Monroe and No. 6-ranked Dougherty looking past Tuesday night’s opponents and more concerned with their big game set for Friday? That’s a possibility since both Monroe and Dougherty lost Tuesday night to teams they had already defeated handily this season.

Monroe (17-4) lost to Crisp County (9-11) 55-48 Tuesday night — a team the Tornadoes blew out by 40 points early in January.

Justin Burns scored nine points for Monroe’s high scorer of the night, Lorenzo Still and Zecory Peterson each scored eight.

Jaylon Cooper poured in 22 points to lead Crisp County and Zakarian Dwight added 15,

In Columbus, the Dougherty Trojans (15-7) lost to Columbus (14-9) 54-53, The Trojans beat the Blue Devils by 21 points two weeks ago in Albany.

Jai’on Burns led Dougherty with 14 points, Kaleke Singletary-Jinks scored 13, and Juwuan Jinks, Jr. added 11.

The Trojans and the Tornadoes will tip off against each other Friday night at Dougherty High School. The girl’s game begins at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.

Lee County 67, Houston County 60

The No.8-ranked Lee County Trojans (19-3) poured in 24 fourth-quarter points to take a 67-60 win over Houston County Tuesday night in Warner Robins. The Trojans remain unbeaten in the region and will take the top seed in the upcoming region tournament. The tournament will likely be at Veterans High School in Kathleen.

Brayden Moore and Josiah Parker both scored 16 points to lead the Trojans. Ousmane Kromah put in nine.

The Trojans will host Tift County Saturday night and Veterans Tuesday night to close the regular season.

Sherwood Christian 64, Central GA Arts 33

The Sherwood Christian Academy Eagles breezed past Centrla Arts in Warner Robins Tuesday night, 64-33.

Tripp Roberts led the Eagles with 22 points and eight rebounds. Alex Harris scored 20 points and took five steals.

The Eagles will host Skipstone Academy Friday night in the final regular season game of the season.

Calhoun County 84, Seminole County 53

The No. 3-ranked Calhoun County Cougars (18-4) remained unbeaten in region play with a huge win over No.8-ranked Seminole County, 84-53.

Jasiyah Suber led the Cougars with 20 points, Zechariah Canidate scored 18 and Amajion Figgins added 13. Seminole County’s DJ Yarborough led the Indians with 13 points.

Monroe 71, Crisp County 22 (Girls)

The No. 9-ranked Monroe Golden Tornadoes (15-7) breezed to a 71-22 win over Crisp County.

Kie’Aundria Acree led the way with 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Ciarra Lunsford scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Taylor Mckinzy knocked in 12 points and doled five assists. Glendalys Harvey scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds.

DougherTy 62, Columbus 42 (Girls)

Dougherty’s Lady Trojans (13-9) earned a big region win, 62-42, over Columbus to maintain fourth place in the region with three remaining games.

The Lady Trojans put together a balanced scoring attack in the win. Jatiana Chambers led the way with 13 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds, and five steals. D’Asia Simmons and Amiyah Jackson each chipped in 11 points, while Jaliya Burns scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
