Basketball Shorts: Albany Monroe ends Columbus Carver’s 16-game win steak; Lee County, Westover, Calhoun all win

COLUMBUS – The No. 3-ranked Monroe Golden Tornadoes (15-3) played lights out Friday night and handed Carver (16-1) their first loss by a 90-71 final on their home court.
Lorenzo Still poured in 15 of his team-high 21 points in the second half to help the Tornadoes beat the Tigers. Justin Burns put in 16, Jaquan Maddox knocked in 13, James Adams scored 10 and Zion Robinson added eight.
The No. 7-ranked Lady Tornadoes found themselves in foul trouble all night and freshman KJ Acree battled double and triple team defense as No.4-ranked Carver beat the Lady Tornadoes 76-65.
“We played hard and battled all night,” said head coach Jennifer Acree.
Despite double and triple team defense, KJ Acree led the Lady Nadas with 29 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Ciarra Lunsford scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and doled five assists. Taylor McKinzy added 10 points for the Tornadoes.
Monroe will host Columbus Tuesday night, while Carver will be in Albany at Dougherty High School.
Lee Co. 71 Northside 37
WARNER ROBINS – The No. 8-ranked Lee County Trojans (15-3) breezed to a big region win Friday in Warner Robins with a 71-37 rout of Northside.
It was the big men inside that were lethal for the Trojans as Tercori Green scored 17 and Matthew Hardwick put in 13 to lead the Trojans. Josiah Parker added 12 points for the Trojans.
The Trojans will head back to middle Georgia Tuesday to take on Veterans (12-5) in Kathleen.
Westover 69 Shaw 55
COLUMBUS – The Westover Patriots (10-7) won their seventh straight and are now 4-0 in region competition after beating Shaw 69-55 Friday night in Columbus.
Bryson Carter and Braylon Ball scored 16 points each to lead the Patriots. Anthony Milton followed with 14.
The Patriots will play a non-region game Tuesday at Tift County (9-8).
Calhoun Co. 81 Pataula Charter 28
EDISON – The No. 3- ranked Calhoun County Cougars (13-4) traveled across the highway in Edison and blasted Pataula Charter 81-28.
Dallas George scored 23 and Kenari Harris added 15.
The Cougars remained perfect in region play and are now 8-0. Calhoun County will travel to Camilla to face No. 6-ranked Mitchell County (16-2) Tuesday night.
Thomasville 50 Dougherty 43 (Girls)
THOMASVILLE – The Dougherty girls dropped a region game to Thomasville Friday night by a final of 50-43. The Lady Trojans made just 13 of 24 free throws in the game.
“It’s hard to win on the road when you miss 11 free throws,” said Dougherty coach Khadijah Ali. “We have to regroup and prepare for Carver and Crisp next week.”
All-State guard Jatiana Chambers led the Lady Trojans with 21 points and she surpassed the 1000-point mark in her high school career as a junior. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had six assists.
“I couldn’t be more proud of her,” said Ali. “We will celebrate her accomplishments next week.”
The Dougherty-Thomasville boy’s game information was not reported.
