Lee County sweeps Houston County

WARNER ROBINS — The Lee County Lady Trojans and Trojans picked up a pair of Region wins Tuesday night at Houston County, with the girls rolling to a 61-22 victory and the boys pulling out a 64-61 win in a much tighter contest.

For the Lady Trojans, the night belonged to junior point guard Camya Hutcherson.

Hutcherson needed 23 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone for her career, and she did exactly that, scoring 23 to lead Lee County to its 16th win of the season and sixth straight overall. The Lady Trojans were in control from the start and never let the Bears threaten, cruising to the 39-point win.

The boys’ game was a different story.

Houston County carried a 48-45 lead into the fourth quarter, but Lee County leaned on its seniors down the stretch. TreCori Green and TJ Williams combined for 17 points in the final eight minutes as the Trojans outscored the Bears 19-13 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.

Green finished with a season-high 30 points to lead all scorers. Josiah Franklin added 17, and Williams chipped in 12.

Lee County will return to Warner Robins next Tuesday to face Northside.

Valwood holds off Deerfield-Windsor

VALDOSTA — The Deerfield-Windsor Knights couldn’t complete the season sweep Tuesday night, falling 54-44 to Valwood at Valdosta.

The Knights had beaten the Valiants earlier this month in Albany, 47-33, and got off to a good start again this time. Deerfield-Windsor received two 3-pointers from Lane Sceals and another from David Hutchins in the first quarter to take a 19-15 lead.

But the offense went cold in the second quarter.

The Knights managed just five points in the period, and Valwood took a 27-24 lead into halftime.

The game remained tight into the fourth quarter, but Valwood made the difference at the free-throw line. The Valiants attempted 14 free throws in the final quarter, making 10 of them. Deerfield-Windsor, meanwhile, attempted just four free throws in the same span.

Sceals led the Knights with 20 points, and Hutchins added 11.

Deerfield-Windsor will be back on the road Friday night, traveling to Tallahassee to face Maclay.
