Blonde ambition: Lee County baseball team dyes hair for state playoff run

LEESBURG — You know the famous saying – “Blondes have more fun.” But – do blondes win more games? The Lee County Trojans are going blonde for the postseason—and not just figuratively.

In a show of unity, swagger, and a nod to one of baseball’s most colorful traditions, nearly every player on the Trojans’ roster bleached their hair blonde ahead of Wednesday’s opening-round matchup in the GHSA Class AAAAA state playoffs. The new look turned heads at Trojan Field, where Lee County split a doubleheader with Habersham Central to force a decisive Game 3.

The tradition of playoff hair dye isn’t unique to Lee County, but this is the first time the Trojans have embraced the full-blonde transformation. Inspired in part by college teams like Ole Miss, who dyed their hair blonde en route to the 2022 College World Series title, and remembering stories of MLB squads doing the same, Lee County’s seniors brought the idea to the team earlier this month.

For now, the blonde hair is more than just a style—it’s a statement. The Trojans are chasing something bigger, and they’re doing it together, one bleached head at a time.
