The Atlanta Braves placed catcher Tyler Flowers on the 10-day disabled list Friday due to a strained left oblique.
Flowers suffered the injury on a swing on his first at-bat of the season on Thursday. He didn’t finish the at-bat and left the contest against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Flowers batted .281 with 12 homers and 49 RBIs in 99 games last season.
Kurt Suzuki is expected to receive the bulk of the catching work while Flowers is sidelined. Chris Stewart becomes the Braves’ No. 2 catcher.
Atlanta recalled right-hander Miguel Socolovich from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the roster spot.
To open a 40-man roster spot, the Braves placed left-hander Jacob Lindgren (elbow) on the 60-day disabled list.
