Brentwood sweeps Terrell Academy out of GISA baseball playoffs

DAWSON — Terrell Academy’s baseball season came to a close Saturday in the quarterfinals of the GISA Class 2A playoffs.

Terrell Academy dropped Game 2 of its best-of-three series to Brentwood 8-5 on Saturday, a day after losing the opener 7-3.

A pair of big innings decided the series, with Brentwood having six-run innings in both games.

Saturday, Brentwood overcame a 2-1 deficit and scored six runs in the fifth, adding one more in the sixth. Terrell Academy scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but Brentwood wrapped up the game with a double play.

Peyton Massengale went 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI for Brentwood. Will Ahrens went 2-for-2 with a double.

Ross West went 2-for-3 for Terrell Academy, with Kory Sellers driving home two runs. Daniel Myers took the loss. Ahrens was the winning pitcher, striking out 11.

In Friday’s game, Terrell Academy scored three runs in the first inning and carried the lead into the sixth inning, where Brentwood scored six runs to take control of things.

Chase Everett had the biggest hit of Game 1, connecting on a grand slam to fuel Brentwood’s sixth-inning rally. Peyton Massengale was the winning pitcher, with Evan Walden picking up a save.

Ethan Gay went 3-for-4 with a double in the Game 1 loss for Terrell Academy. Garrett Sloan took the loss.
