ALBANY – Byne Christian School hosted Peoples Baptist of McDonough in varsity basketball action Tuesday night, with the Lady Saints securing a commanding 52-32 victory before the Knights claimed the boys’ game 55-45.
The Lady Saints remained unbeaten, improving to 7-0, while the Saints fell to 0-7 as they continue to search for their first win of the season.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Knights opened with a quick 4-0 lead, prompting Byne head coach Paul Malone to call a timeout and implement a full-court defensive press. The adjustment paid off.
Led by Kinley Carlisle and Layna Paramore, the Lady Saints’ defense forced numerous turnovers and powered Byne to a 15-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. Peoples Baptist responded by breaking through the press and feeding 6’2” center Lindsey St. Cyr, cutting the deficit to 19-16 late in the second quarter. However, Byne answered with a strong run to close the half up 26-16.
Byne opened the second half with eight straight points and steadily widened its lead. Carlisle scored a game-high 29 points, while Paramore added 14. St. Cyr led the Lady Knights with 12 points, and Kaitlynn Dorsey contributed eight.
The boys’ game started with the Saints struggling offensively, as turnovers led to an early 10-2 deficit. However, Byne’s defense tightened, and the Saints rallied to trail just 20-18 at halftime.
The Saints tied the game early in the third quarter, but the Knights adjusted to Byne’s press by getting the ball to Aaron Crommer in the middle of the court. Crommer consistently drove to the basket, scoring 16 of his 27 points in the second half to break the Saints’ defense.
Byne fought to stay in the game, led by Andrew Battaglia. After scoring just two points in the first half, Battaglia erupted for 17 in the second, keeping the Saints competitive. Despite his efforts, Byne couldn’t close the gap. Battaglia finished with 19 points, and Will Skelly added 13 for the Saints.
Byne will travel to face Appling Christian on Friday before hosting Webster County next Tuesday in Albany.
