Calhoun County beats Lanier, advances to Elite Eight

LAKELAND – The Calhoun County Cougars (25-5) moved on to the Elite Eight Saturday night in Lakeland with a 72-61 win over Lanier County. The Cougars will now travel to Machester to take on the Blue Devils (18-8) Wednesday at 6 p.m. Manchester beat Towns County 72-58 in the Sweet 16.

In Lakeland Saturday night, the Cougars got 18 points from Jasiyah Suber, 13 from Zion Suber, and 11 from Ricardo Cannon.

The Cougars are the only Region 1-A team advancing to the Elite Eight in the boy’s state tournament. Clinch County eliminated Mitchell County 55-50 in Camilla Saturday night and McIntosh Academy defeated Randolph-Clay 43-42 to knock out the Red Devils.
