ALBANY – The No. 6-ranked Mitchell County Eagles 21-5 did what they have been trying to do all season – beat Calhoun County. It is the third time the two teams have met and Calhoun won both of the first two meetings. But Friday night at Albany State West, the Eagles prevailed 62-54 to take the Region 1-A championship and earn the top seed heading into the state basketball playoffs.

Seminole County defeated Randolph-Clay 47-40 to win the girl’s region championship.

In the consolation games, the Early County Lady Bobcats beat Terrell County 49-42 and the boy’s game, Early County beat Randolph-Clay 62-57.

Pairings for the first round of the state playoffs are pending.
