Colquitt County’s Rush Propst fired after closed session
From media reports
MOULTRIE — After a two hour, closed-door meeting, the Colquitt County Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday to fire head football coach Rush Propst and relieve him of all duties immediately. The board spent two hours behind closed doors, evidently to discuss information from the investigation which was announced in February.
The board listened to objections from the highly pro-Propst fans that had gathered for the meeting, but then voted unanimously to terminate his employment. Superintendent Doug Howell did not provide any insight into the charges that led to the investigation or the firing but said the Georgia Professional Standards Commission would take over the investigation from here.
Current and former players. along with the friends, fans, and community supporters packed the called meeting Thursday in Moultrie to voice support for the coach who has led the Packers since 2008. During his time at Colquitt County, Propst led the team to two state championships and two runner-up finishes. In his tenure in Moultrie, Propst led his team to a 119-35 record as well as a national championship. During his time 131 players signed scholarships to play college football.
Because no information on the reason for the firing was released, many Colquitt County fans are not happy with the board’s decision and have voiced their opinions on social media. Some have called for all of the current board members to be voted out.
“Yall regret making this wrong decision,” posted one fan. “I think it’s time for the board to go,” posted another. There were posts on social media supporting the board decision, but they were far outnumbered by those who opposed it.
