The Indianapolis Colts released two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis, the team announced Thursday.

The move comes one day after multiple outlets reported that Davis would have season-ending groin surgery. The 29-year-old reportedly had been seeking additional medical opinions before accepting the decision to have surgery.

“I had a groin tear that I dealt with,” Davis said, per ESPN. “I got different opinions on it. One doctor said I should have had surgery, other doctor told me to let it heal. I took the let-it-heal approach. I came back, and probably came back a little too early, and in the process I probably hurt my teammates.”

Davis told reporters that he felt disrespected with the Colts leaving him behind for last weekend’s game at Houston. Coach Chuck Pagano said after the game that leaving Davis behind was a coach’s decision.

Davis, who was acquired from Miami in a trade on Aug. 26, 2012, was a Pro Bowl selection in 2014 and 2015. He has 22 career interceptions and 399 total tackles in 120 career games with the Dolphins and Colts.

Pierre Desir started against the Texans and is expected to occupy that role with Indianapolis for the remainder of the season.

Also on Thursday, the Colts promoted Matt Hazel to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and signed fellow wide receiver KeVonn Mabon to the practice squad. The team also activated tackle/guard Denzelle Good from injured reserve and placed defensive tackle Henry Anderson on IR.

Hazel caught one pass for one yard while playing in two games for Indianapolis this season. He has appeared in seven career games with the Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins and Colts.

Mabon was waived during the team’s final cuts on Sept. 2. He originally signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2017.

Good originally was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 13 with undisclosed injury. The 6-foot-5, 345-pound Good played in 19 career games (15 starts) along the offensive line in three seasons with Indianapolis (2015-17). He was originally selected by the team in the seventh round of the 2015 draft.

Anderson, who was placed on IR with a fractured larynx, collected 22 tackles, 2.0 sacks and one forced fumble in nine games with the Colts this season.
