Controversial Oregon State LHP Heimlich goes undrafted

Oregon State ace left-hander Luke Heimlich wasn’t selected by any team by the conclusion of the Major League Baseball draft Wednesday.
It’s the second year in a row Heimlich has gone undrafted after it was uncovered that he admitted to sexually assaulting his 6-year-old niece when he was 15 years old.
In recent interviews with Sports Illustrated and The New York Times, Heimlich has denied committing the act, saying he pleaded guilty to end the ordeal for the sake of the family. However, the girl’s parents have opposed his denial, insisting the abuse took place.
Heimlich is among the best college players in the nation, posting a 15-1 record with a 2.42 ERA through 17 games (16 starts) at Oregon State. He is a two-time Pac-12 pitcher of the year.
When Heimlich’s past crimes were first reported last year — shortly before the 2017 draft — he stepped away from Oregon State and missed the second round of the NCAA baseball tournament and the College World Series.
