Deerfield-Windsor leading GISA track competition after Day 2
Running finals slated for Saturday at Hugh Mills Stadium

ALBANY — Deerfield-Windsor’s bid to repeat as GISA boys and girls track and field champions is on target heading into Saturday’s running event finals at Hugh Mills Stadium.
Through the completion of field events Friday, the Knights lead both Class 3A competitions. The boys lead Trinity Christian-Dublin 62-60, with the rest of the field well behind. The girls are well ahead, leading second-place Augusta Prep 77-40.
In Class 2A competition, Westwood is in the hunt in both boys and girls competition. The Westwood boys are third with 34 points, trailing first-place Robert Toombs by 13 points and second-place Brentwood by 10 points. The Westwood girls are second with 55.5 points, 10 points behind Brentwood.
Terrell Academy’s boys are in fourth in Class 2A competition with 30 points.
Deerfield-Windsor claimed the top two spots in the Class 3A girls 800. Camryn Bridges won in 2:18.65, with Charlotte Augenstein second in 2:21.91.
Bridges set a meet record in the 1,600, winning the event in 5:09.05.
In the field,Deerfield-Windsor claimed another 1-2 finish in the triple jump. Hadley Holt was first, jumping 35-0.25, while Augenstein was second with a jump of 32-4.
Also, the Knights’ Lila Lanier won the high jump, clearing 5-1.
Westwood’s Javen Wimberly set a meet record in her Class 2A triple jump victory, recording a jump of 36 feet, 5.25 inches. She won her event by 16 inches.
In the boys Class 3A meet, Deerfield-Windsor’s Jackson Tennyson was the pole vault winner, with 12-9 his winning height.
Westwood’s boys picked up a victory in the Class 2A pole vault, with Railey Davis clearing 10 feet.
Terrell Academy’s Matthews Ivey was a winner in the Class 2A triple jump, recording a 39-4 attempt.
Running events Saturday begin at 9:30 a.m. with the 3,200, with the remainder of the program slated for an 11:30 a.m. start.
