Delle Donne paces Mystics in rout of Storm

WASHINGTON — Elena Delle Donne scored 25 points and the Washington Mystics took control with a dominant first half en route to a 100-70 victory against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday afternoon.

Kristi Toliver had 15 points and Tayler Hill 14 for the Mystics (9-5), who led 56-31 at halftime and by as many as 36. Washington shot 50 percent from the field and 10 of 24 on 3-point attempts for a revenge victory over Seattle and its second win in a row overall. Tierra Ruffin-Pratt had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Storm (6-7) entered the early tip-off of the opening game of its three-game road trip having lost four of their last five. Washington led 29-12 after the opening period and never relented.

Crystal Langhorne had 15 points and Breanna Stewart 11 for the Storm. Seattle could not keep up with Washington from distance, shooting 4 of 21 on 3-pointers while committing 23 turnovers.

Jewell Loyd, Seattle’s leading scorer, had four points on 2 of 10 shooting and committed four turnovers.

Washington lost at Seattle 81-71 on May 21. Loyd scored 26 points and the Storm nearly sank 50 percent of their field-goal attempts.

Toliver hit all three of her 3s in the first half as Washington opened 8 of 15 from beyond the arc. Delle Donne made two 3s, shot 7 of 10 from the field and sank all nine of her free-throw attempts. The Mystics made 26 of 29 free throws.

Ivory Latta had eight points for the Mystics before being ejected in the third quarter after receiving two technical fouls. Krystal Thomas also grabbed 12 rebounds for Washington.

Ramu Tokashiki also scored 11 points for the Storm.

Seattle’s three-game road trip continues at the Connecticut Sun on Thursday followed by a stop at the Dallas Wings. The Mystics remain at home for the first of three matchups with the New York Liberty on Thursday.
