Dougherty blasts Hardaway, edges Shaw over the weekend
By Joe Whitfield
The Dougherty Trojans blew out Hardaway 87-57 Saturday night in Albany to win their sixth game in a row and end the regular season with an 18-7 record overall, and a 12-4 region record. That secures the #3 seed in the upcoming region tournament for the Trojans. Dougherty’s only region losses have come against top-seeded Carver and second-seeded Americus-Sumter.
Dougherty built a huge 47-19 halftime lead and Coach Rufus McDuffie got almost all of his players onto the court in the second half. Fifteen different Trojans scored in Saturday night’s game. Inside post player Will Riggins led the scoring with 16 points. Eric Gulley and Ke’andrez Johnson each scored 13 and Rod Jones added 10 for the Trojans. Justin Jackson pulled down 14 rebounds for the Trojans.
Friday night Rod Jones poured in 29 points as the Trojans beat Shaw in Columbus 76-71. The game was close throughout but a three by Trey Woodard in the third quarter gave the Trojans the lead for good. Others in double figures were Jordan Greene with 12 points, Will Riggins with 11 and Eric Gulley with 10. Justin Jackson snagged 11 rebounds. The Trojans stole the ball 16 times.
The Trojans will play in the Region 1-AAAA tournament at Carver of Columbus later this week.
