ALBANY — On a splendid March afternoon in southwest Georgia, the Lee County girls and the Dougherty boys took home the top team spots in Wednesday’s Rhodes’ Relays sponsored by Deerfield-Windsor track.

Fifteen area teams converged on Albany’s Hugh Mills Stadium on Wednesday, and the Lady Trojans of Lee County scored 120 points to lead the girls, Westover was second with 101, Monroe finished third with 81 and host Deerfield-Windsor finished fourth with 81.5 points without senior Joi Hubbard, who was ill.

Dougherty’s boys scored 89.5 points to win the boys’ top spot, ahead of Deerfield-Windsor in second place with 72 points, Lee County in third and Monroe in fourth.

It was the speedsters who helped both teams take the top spots.

Lee County’s Jade Cintron took first place in the girls 100-meter and 200-meter races, while Sarah Head won the 800-meter race and Hidiya Ali took the top spot in the 1600-meter race for the Lady Trojans. Lee County’s Head also took second place in the girls 300-meter hurdles, pushing Monroe’s state champion Marianna Wright at the finish. Wright crossed the finish line with a time of 43.50 seconds, while Head was right behind her at the 43.97 mark.

Dougherty’s boys were led by Austin Davis, who won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and ran the final leg of the 4×100 relay team that finished first for the Trojans.  Dougherty also got top spots in the boys 800-meter run from Zaterious Griffin and the boys triple jump from Jaqavius Hollmon. Hollmon also took second place in the boys high jump, right behind Monroe’s defending state champion, Justin Burns.
