Dougherty defense helps Trojans down Camden County in overtime – Friday’s schedule announced

LEESBURG — A relentless defensive effort in overtime propelled the Dougherty Trojans to their third consecutive victory Thursday afternoon, as they defeated the Camden County Wildcats 66-58 in the Lee County Round Ball Classic. The win improved Dougherty’s record to 7-5 on the season.

The Trojans built a 27-20 lead by halftime and entered the fourth quarter ahead 41-34. However, Camden County mounted a late-game rally, highlighted by a three-pointer from senior Caleb Reed. Moments later, David Coleman scored for the Wildcats to tie the game at 49-49 with just 23 seconds remaining. After a timeout, the Trojans set up for a potential game-winning shot, but their attempts missed, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra period, Dougherty Head Coach Bakari Bryant deployed a full-court press that overwhelmed the Wildcats. The Trojans’ speed and aggressive defense forced multiple turnovers, leading to quick baskets. Kaleke Singletary-Jinks capped off the run with a strong drive to the basket, giving Dougherty a commanding 61-51 lead with two minutes left in the four-minute overtime period.
Singletary-Jinks led the Trojans with 19 points, followed by Juwuan Jinks with 13. Zaterious Griffin added nine points, and Jaquavus Hallman contributed seven.
Dougherty’s win sets up a Friday night matchup against host Lee County. The Lee County Trojans (8-2) beat Lake Minneola (Fla.). The Dougherty-Lee County game is scheduled to tip off at 8:30 p.m.
