One member of Duke’s heralded freshman class will be back as a sophomore.
Point guard Tre Jones plans to return for his second season with the Blue Devils next season, the school announced in a Twitter post on Monday.
Jones averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game in his debut college season for Duke, which entered the NCAA Tournament as the nation’s No. 1 team but lost in the national quarterfinals to Michigan State.
Jones entered Duke along with fellow freshmen Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish, a group that led Duke to a 32-6 record. The other freshmen are expected to declare for the NBA Draft in June.
Jones had an up-and-down NCAA tourney, highlighted by scoring a career-high 22 points with eight assists in the Blue Devils’ Sweet 16 win over Virginia Tech. However, he followed with just four points in the Michigan State loss that eliminated Duke.
