Firebirds add new players
The team added four new players
From Staff reports
The Georgia Firebirds continued to make roster moves hoping to find the perfect combination for a victory.
On Friday, the team announced that linebacker Montaque Mack, offensive lineman Montavis Mack, defensive back Corey Rue and defensive end Derrick Wimbush have been added to the roster.
“We have evaluated Montaque as a strong, physical, high motor guy, who is going to make an impact,” Firebirds general manager Terrence Fowler said. “He is a dynamic player with great size and speed, his addition will make us a very difficult defense to score on. His twin brother Montavis is a huge piece of the puzzle we need to complete our o-line.”
Rue and Wimbush were members of the Albany Panthers squad that won back-to-back championships.
“Rue has been a rock at the Jack linebacker position for three seasons now,” Fowler said. “Having
him gives us the talent and experience to continue to be one of the best defenses in the AIF. Wimbush is the rock to solidify us at fullback, offensive line, and defensive end.”
The Firebirds’ inaugural season continues tonight against the Savannah Steam. The game kicks off at 7:05 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
The Firebirds are currently 0-2 after losing to the Columbus Lions in the first game and Atlanta Vultures in the second.
The home opener against the Vultures was the first game under new coach Antwone Savage.
