Friday Night Five: Quintin Edwards is Player of Week
Friday Night Five!
By Joe Whitfield, Sports Editor
Georgia’s most prolific running back plays in Edison—and Quintin Edwards added another remarkable chapter to his season Thursday night.
The Calhoun County senior needed only nine carries to pile up 237 yards and four touchdowns in the Cougars’ 44-22 victory over Southwest Georgia STEM Charter. He averaged 26.3 yards per attempt, with nearly half his carries ending in the end zone.
The performance raised Edwards’ season total to 1,720 rushing yards through eight games, keeping him atop Georgia’s statewide leaderboard, according to the latest statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

It was Edwards’ second consecutive monster performance. He rushed for 333 yards and six touchdowns the previous week, giving him 570 yards and 10 touchdowns on only 22 carries over his past two games.
Those numbers make Edwards the Albany Herald’s Friday Night Five Player of the Week. But Calhoun County coach Deshon Brock said Edwards’ value extends well beyond the stat sheet.
“Quintin is a great football player and an even better young man,” Brock said. “He embodies everything you would want in a student-athlete on and off the field. He is extremely talented, yet humble.
“He can do everything you would want a feature back to do, and he is a great teammate and leader.”
