Friday Night Five: Terrell County’s Huckaby is Player of the Week

If you wanted offense Friday night, the game in Edison between Calhoun County and Terrell County was the place to be.

Two running backs combined for 520 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in Terrell County’s 34-30 victory, and both finished at the top of this week’s Albany Herald Friday Night Five rushing leaders.

Calhoun County junior Quintin Edwards led all area rushers with a staggering 283 yards and three touchdowns on just 17 carries. Edwards averaged 16.6 yards every time he touched the football.

But Terrell County’s Quin’traevion Huckaby answered with a monster night of his own — and his team walked away with the win.

Huckaby carried 20 times for 237 yards and five touchdowns, accounting for 30 of the Greenwave’s 34 points and earning Albany Herald Friday Night Five Player of the Week honors.

The two backs combined for 37 carries, 520 yards and eight touchdowns in a four-point game.

And they weren’t the only players filling up the stat sheet Friday.

Baker County quarterback Taylor Sanders produced one of the season’s biggest all-around performances. Sanders completed 15 of 28 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 16 times for another 188 yards and three scores. That’s 437 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in Baker County’s 46-42 loss to Griffin Christian.

Terrell Academy’s Bryse Peachey also did plenty of damage with his arm and legs. Peachey rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries while completing 7 of 9 passes for 113 yards and another score.

Sherwood Christian quarterback Chuck LaGrange accounted for four touchdowns in the Eagles’ 46-42 victory over Chattahoochee County. LaGrange rushed 13 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns and completed 8 of 13 passes for 98 yards and two more scores.

His teammate Bryson Gay provided one of the game’s biggest plays. Gay piled up 180 all-purpose yards, highlighted by a 101-yard kickoff return that helped change the game for the Eagles.

Westover’s Gabriel Hopper and Mikhail Simmons formed one of the area’s most productive passing combinations. Hopper threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, while Simmons caught four passes for 163 yards and two scores.

Dougherty’s Micah Joyner threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns, with David Burgess catching five passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.
