Fugees too much for Deerfield-Windsor boys soccer
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — The Deerfield-Windsor boys soccer team saw its season come to an end Friday, losing 4-1 to Fugees in the quarterfinals of the GISA Tournament.
Deerfield-Windsor (9-7-1) scored the first goal 15 minutes in, with Parker Orlowski netting a free kick from just outside the penalty area. But Fugees kept up offensive pressure, keeping the ball on Deerfield-Windsor’s side of midfield for much of the first half.
Fugees, a school for international refugees located in Clarkston that graduated its first senior class two years ago, leveled the match soon after Orlowski’s free kick. An own goal a minute before halftime gave Fugees the lead.
Things went Fugees’ way early in the second half, with the visiting team scoring two more goals.
Deerfield-Windsor mounted several scoring attempts in the second half, with Orlowski, Spears Wilson, Parker Goodin and Ran Patel coming up with strong attempts that were rebuffed.
“A great season for the Knights,” Deerfield-Windsor head coach Aly Joslin said. “Unfortunately we met our match pace-wise and athletically, and we were unable to match it.”
Fugees advances to face Frederica, a 4-0 winner over Holy Spirit Prep, in this Friday’s semifinals in Macon. Heritage and Westminster-Augusta meet in the other semifinal.
Deerfield-Windsor’s girls will face Frederica, which beat Holy Spirit Prep 2-1 on Friday, in a 2 p.m. semifinal this Friday at Mercer’s Five Star Stadium.
