Georgia bounces back, beats Florida, 4-1

SEATTLE, Wash. — After falling in the first round of the ITA Indoor Championships, the No. 4 ranked Georgia women’s team bounced back in dominant fashion with a 4-1 win over No. 8 Florida in the consolation bracket first round at the Seattle Tennis Center on Saturday.

Opening the morning with doubles action, the Bulldogs (3-3) jumped out to a hot start before securing the doubles point.

On court one, No. 31 Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova picked up the first doubles match victory of the day as they knocked off Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee (Florida), 6-3. It was not long before No. 32 Mai Nirundorn and Guillermina Grant followed up with a 6-4 win over Qavia Lopez and Malwina Rowinska (Florida) to secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs.

In singles play, Georgia held on to its momentum as the Bulldogs took the first set on four of six courts.

On court five, Grant shined bright as she made quick work of Dudeney (Florida) on her way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory, marking her second singles win in as many days. No. 38 Vidmanova joined in on the win column as her dominating performance saw her pick up a 6-0, 6-2 ranked victory over No. 67 Carly Briggs (Florida). After a Florida win on court six, Georgia capped off the day with a win thanks to No. 114 Anastasiia Lopata’s 6-2, 6-3 clincher on court four over Sara Dahlstrom.

The Bulldogs will resume action at the ITA Indoor Championships on Sunday, Feb. 11 at the Seattle Tennis Center. Georgia will compete in the second round of the consolation bracket and face an opponent to be named after the conclusion of day two of the competition.
