Georgia College takes two from Albany State softball
Lady Rams drop pair of games in season opener

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Albany State women’s softball team opened its 2017 season with a pair of setbacks. ASU lost a doubleheader to Georgia College by the scores of 8-2 and 9-1 on the first day of the Bobcat Kickoff Tournament.
The pair of losses gave the Lady Rams an 0-2 record on the young season. GC improved to 2-0.
In the first game, Albany State fell behind early and found it difficult to catch up. Georgia College took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Bobcats added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-0 advantage.
The Lady Rams used the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit in half. Jala Stewart and Brianna Murillo each scored off an error to make it 4-2.
However, Georgia College would pull away from ASU for a second time. The Lady Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth inning to build the lead once again and put Albany State out of contention.
Albany State collected a total of four hits and three errors in the contest. Aryn McGowan (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
In the second game, the Lady Bobcats used the first three innings to generate a 5-0 lead and never looked back. ASU scored its only run in the top of the fourth inning. Toni Coleman belted a single to score Malea Maye, who tripled earlier, to make it 5-1.
However, Georgia College scored more runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
Coleman was 2-for-3 hitting to lead the Lady Rams. Albany State tallied four hits and four errors. Tiffany Massey (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
