MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –

Albany State hit the road Saturday for a non-conference matchup with the Bobcats of Georgia College. In the women’s’ game, the Golden Rams fell to the host school, 79-67 and in the men’s game, ASU fell 72-54.

The Albany State ladies led the Bobcats after one quarter of play, but hit a lull in the second and third quarters and trailed 61-42 entering the final frame. The Golden Rams charged back and cut the deficit to five with three minutes to play, but the Bobcats were red-hot from beyond the arc and it proved too much for the visitors to overcome.

Tyra Thompson led Albany State (3-7) with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Ciera Norman added 11 points and Yolanda Givens scored 10 points.

Jasmine McSwain scored a game-high 21 points for Georgia College (4-5).

A cold night from deep slowed the ASU men’s attack and ultimately led to the loss on Saturday.

The Golden Rams shot well below their season average (35%) from beyond the arc, making just one of 18 attempts from three as Georgia College led bell-to-bell.

Tyrell Williams had 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and pulled in eight rebounds for Albany State (3-6). Michael Green added 12 points and six rebounds.

Isaac Thomas had a double-double for Georgia College (5-4) with 18 points and 16 rebounds.

The Golden Rams are back in conference action on Saturday when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. and take on Miles College. ASU won the lone matchup against the Golden Bears last season, 72-57.
