(TNS) — Georgia rang in the new year with more highly-touted football recruits, receiving nonbinding pledges Sunday from safety Deangelo Gibbs and athlete Tray Bishop.
Gibbs committed to the Bulldogs during the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando, Fla. He picked Georgia over Alabama and Auburn.
Bishop, a 6-3, 195-pounder from Terrell County is rated the No. 4 athlete prospect and No. 149 overall according to 247Sports.com. The standout, who played quarterback and safety for the Greenwave, was a member of the Albany Herald’s Dynamite Dozen team as well as the newspaper’s All-Area Football Team.
He had verbally committed to Auburn before changing his mind and committing to Georgia.
A 6-foot-2, 205-pounder from Grayson High School in the Atlanta suburb of Loganville, Gibbs is the nation’s No. 3 safety and No. 40 overall prospect in the 247Sports.com composite rankings. The Bulldogs also have a commitment from the nation’s No. 2 safety prospect, Richard LeCounte III of Riceboro, Ga.
The Bulldogs have one signee — Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College offensive tackle D’Marcus Hayes — for 2017 and 21 commitments. Of those 21 commitments, nine are ranked among the top 100 nationally by 247Sports.com, and 15 are among the top 150.
Georgia’s crop of commitments continues to rank third nationally behind Alabama and Ohio State.
