Georgia Southwestern has hired Nate Ferrell as a baseball assistant coach, the university announced in a release.

Ferrell, a native of Griffin, will work with the team’s infielders and hitters. He played two seasons of independent league baseball after graduating from Central Arkansas in 2015.

“I’m extremely thankful and grateful for the opportunity here at GSW,” Ferrell said in the release. “This is my first year coaching, and I couldn’t have asked for a better situation in learning from (head coach Bryan) McLain while also having a little free reign as the assistant. I believe I was called to be a part of young men’s lives, and I’m excited to help them grow and develop as players and people.”

Said McLain, “I’m excited to have Nate join our staff. He has a wealth of baseball knowledge and experience gained from his playing career, and as a younger guy, he will bring a new energy to our coaching staff. I think he’s going to be able to use those tools as he works with our players on and off the field.”
