Georgia Tech baseball posts lopsided win over fourth-ranked Georgia
From Staff Reports
ATLANTA — Sophomore Luke Waddell crushed a two-run homer down the right-field line to ignite 10 unanswered runs en route to Georgia Tech baseball defeating No. 4 Georgia 11-2 in a rain-shortened, seven-inning contest at Russ Chandler Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Yellow Jackets (17-8) allowed two runs by the Bulldogs (21-4) on the night, both in the first inning, before junior Amos Willingham (4-0) dealt five scoreless innings on the mound, striking out eight during his impressive night. Georgia relief pitcher Adam Goodman (0-1) received the loss after he gave up the home run.
Tech’s nine-hit evening was led by two multi-hit performances and three multi-RBI outings. Wesleyan grad Colin Hall and Buford grad Nick Wilhite both turned in 2-for-4 nights with Hall hitting a bases-clearing double in the sixth. Norcross grad Baron Radcliff continued his impressive week by hitting his third home run in the last five days to plate two, while Tristin English finished with two pivotal sacrifice flies on the game and three RBIs overall.
The fourth-ranked Bulldogs were limited to just six hits overall, highlighted by three doubles – one each for Peachtree Ridge alum Cam Shepherd, Aaron Shunk and John Cable – but all occurred in the first inning, before being held to just three hits over the remaining six innings.
Georgia Tech is now 6-1 in its last seven games and has four wins against top-five teams in the country this season (No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Louisville and No. 4 Georgia). The win is the first for Tech over UGA since 2016, snapping a streak of six straight losses.
