Georgia tops Mississippi State, sets regular-season wins record

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball added another milestone to a historic season Saturday afternoon, rolling past the Mississippi State Bulldogs men’s basketball 102–96 at Humphrey Coliseum.

With the victory, Georgia improved to 22-9 overall and 10-8 in the SEC, setting a new program record for most regular-season wins in school history. The Bulldogs also evened the all-time series with Mississippi State at 60-60 while continuing an offensive surge that has defined the season.

Sophomore Kanon Catchings led the way with 23 points, knocking down 5-of-7 shots from three-point range. Catchings’ hot shooting helped Georgia pull away in the second half after a tightly contested game early.

After seven lead changes, the Bulldogs seized control midway through the second half when Catchings buried back-to-back three-pointers at the 15:55 mark to give Georgia the lead for good. The Bulldogs later stretched the margin to 15 points with 5:13 remaining.

Georgia had a balanced scoring attack, placing five players in double figures. Marcus Millender added 18 points, while Jeremiah Wilkinson and Blue Cain each scored 15. Somto Cyril chipped in 10.

Cain also reached a major personal milestone during the game. A second-chance three-pointer with 17:55 remaining gave the junior his 1,000th career point, making him the second Bulldog this season to reach the mark, joining Millender.

Georgia’s offense continued to rewrite the record book. The Bulldogs pushed their season scoring total to 2,802 points, breaking the previous school record of 2,764. Saturday’s performance also marked the eighth time this season Georgia has scored at least 100 points, surpassing the previous school record of five set during the 1990-91 season.

The Bulldogs also held advantages in assists (19-16), steals (11-8) and bench scoring (41-27).

Georgia will now turn its attention to postseason play as it awaits seeding for the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, which begins Wednesday at Bridgestone Arena.
