GISA All-State and All=Region teams include Westwood, Terrell Academy, and Deerfield Windsor leaders

Four Lady Cats, two Lady Eagles land on All-State team

The high school basketball season may be over, but the basketball award season is still going strong. The Georgia Independent School Association has released its’ All-State and All-Region basketball selections for the recently completed season and the Westwood Lady Cats led AA with four players on the All-State and All-Region teams. Westwood Coach Derrick Harris was also named as the GISA Coach of the year for the second time in three years.

Westwood seniors Karlie Jones, Abby Santos, and Gracie Pollock, as well as junior point guard Brianna Thompson, were all named All-Region and All-State after the Lady Cats won their second consecutive state championship and finished with a 28-3 record.

Terrell Academy point guard Jenna Cuff and shooting guard Sierra Brogdon were also selected to the All-State and All-Region teams. Shooting guard Kate Douglas was also named All-Region.

The only male basketball player in the area selected for All-State was Terrell Academy senior Mathews Ivey. He was joined on the All-Region team by teammates Jamal Lewis, Garrett Sloan, Cameron Jones, and Jordan Weekley. Westwood’s John Dean Daniels was also selected to the All-Region team.

In Class AAA, Deerfield Windsor had three girls and three boys named to the Region 3-AAA team. Emilee Foy, Rachel Bonner, and Lila Lanier were selected for the girls. Shamir Wingfield, Ronald Bates, and Nick Dixon were selected for the boy’s 3-AAA All-Region team.
