ALBANY — Lee County capitalized on multiple Terrell County turnovers early in the game Friday night to beat the Greenwave 64-35 in the opening game of the U-Save It Classic Christmas Tournament at Albany High School.

The Trojans were up by six at the end of the first quarter but used a sloppy second quarter to build a double-digit lead.

Lee picked off multiple long Terrell County pass attempts and capitalized on numerous fast breaks to take a 31-18 lead into the half.

Jalin Wimberly had seven first half points for the Trojans.

The Greenwave went just two of six from the line in the second quarter.

The lead was further extended in the third quarter. Lee opened up the second half with 12 consecutive points. Terrell didn’t score their first basket of the third quarter until two minutes remaining.

“This was our third time playing Terrell this year,” Lee coach Kirven Davis said. “They came out with a different scheme tonight, but we managed to hold them off. Defensively, I think we were sound.”

Wimberly finished as the game’s leading scorer with 14. Tyler McConnell also chipped in 11 for Lee.

Terrell was led by Detravion Bishop who finished with 12 points.

The Trojans will have two days off before their next game. They face Cedar Grove at 4 p.m. on Monday and their final game is against Manchester at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“It creates momentum,” Davis said of winning the first game. “It gives us some momentum going in to play Cedar Grove and Manchester, teams that we have to play and know nothing about. We will hang around tonight and watch and try to learn a little something about them.”

Terrell County will also have two days off before they play again. The Greenwave will face Southeast Bulloch at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. They will also play the final game of the showcase when they face Americus-Sumter Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
