TODAY’S GAMES
Lee County Trojans (2-0) at Americus-Sumter Panthers (1-1)
• When: 7:30 p.m.
• Site: Finklea-Robinson Stadium, Americus
• Overview: Lee County’s game with Hardaway was postponed last week due to Hurricane Hermine and the Trojans are anxious to return to the field. Americus-Sumter’s rebuilding project continues under coach Erik Soliday. The Panthers scored an overtime win over Dooly County last week after falling to Crisp County in their opener.
Westover Patriots (1-1) at Dougherty Trojans (0-1)
• When: 7:30 p.m.
• Site: Hugh Mills Stadium, Albany
• Overview: Westover scored a key victory in a 26-9 win over Albany High last week. The Patriots could finish 2-1 in city rivalry games with a victory tonight. Dougherty, meanwhile, hasn’t played since a 34-32 loss to Turner County on Aug. 18. The Trojans need a good showing as two of their next three games are on the road.
Monroe Tornadoes (1-0) at Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (3-0)
• When: 8 p.m.
• Site: Jackets Nest, Thomasville
• Overview: Monroe, after its game was postponed last week against Thomasville, looks to build on its first victory. The Tornadoes haven’t played well at TCC. The Jackets have been impressive in wins over Worth County, Thomasville and Cairo.
Early County Bobcats (0-1-1) at Worth County Rams (1-2)
• When: 7:30 p.m.
• Site: Milt Miller Field, Sylvester
• Overview: Both teams continue to seek consistency. Early County tied rival Seminole County last week, while Worth lost a nail-biting 13-10 setback to Veterans. The Rams seek to head in the right direction over the next three weeks before beginning Region 1-AAA play on Oct. 7
Mitchell County Eagles (2-0, 1-0 Region 1-A) at Miller County Pirates (1-0, 1-0)
• When: 7:30 p.m.
• Site: Miller County High School, Colquitt
• Overview: Mitchell County has posted back-to-back shutouts in its first two games and seeks to stay atop the Region 1-A standings. Miller County hasn’t played since beating Terrell County 29-20 in its season opener two weeks ago. Both teams have scored plenty of points on offense.
Deerfield-Windsor Knights (2-2) at Westfield Hornets (0-2)
• When: 7:30 p.m.
• Site: Westfield School, Perry
• Overview: Westfield has struggled to score points this season, while Deerfield-Windsor’s young team seems to be maturing at the right time. The Hornets always seem to be a good measuring stick for Deerfield before region play begins. The Knights played well in a victory over Terrell Academy last week.
Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg Lions (0-4) at Westwood Wildcats (1-3)
• When: 7:30 p.m.
• Site: Centennial Stadium, Camilla
• Overview: Westwood has lost three straight after opening the season against First Presbyterian Christian with a victory. The Wildcats have struggled on defense, allowing 67 combined points in losses to Southland and Flint River during the past two weeks. Trinity Christian has struggled in its four losses and seeks to get things rolling.
Southland Raiders (3-1) at Terrell Academy Eagles (0-3)
• When: 7:30 p.m.
• Site: Don Beard Field, Dawson
• Overview: Southland lost its first game last week, while Terrell Academy seeks its first victory. The Eagles have played well in all of their losses. The two have a common opponent – both suffered lost to The Heritage School of Newnan.
SATURDAY’S GAME
Lanier Christian Lightning (0-3) at Sherwood Christian Eagles (0-3)
• When: 2 p.m.
• Site: Sherwood Christian School, Albany
• Overview: Sherwood plays a rare Saturday afternoon game. After three losses to open the season, the Eagles desperately seek some positive momentum. The Lightning have struggled in a trio of losses and have scored just seven points in their three games this season.
