While the rushing games of most high school teams in the area usually dominates, Friday night was all about the passing game for local teams. Sherwood’s Tripp Roberts and Deerfield-Windsor’s Lane Sceals both set school records for passing. Worth County’s Lyndown Worth threw six touchdown passes and 381 yards. Lee County quarterback Weston Bryan threw three touchdown passes and 276 yards.

Here is the roundup:

Deerfield-Windsor 27 Valwood 6

ALBANY – Deerfield-Windsor quarterback Lane Sceals set a new school record for passing yards in a game Friday night as the Knights defeated defending state champion Valwood 27-6 at Webb Memorial Stadium in Albany.

Sceals completed 24 of 35 passes for 421 yards and three touchdowns, breaking the previous school record by nearly 100 yards. Gabe Daniel and David Hutchins each recorded eight receptions, with Daniel catching all three of Sceals’ touchdown passes, including an 85-yard scoring play.

“It was a full team effort,” said Deerfield-Windsor Head Coach Jake McCrae. “We were without one of our best players, Cooper Harris, who has pneumonia. Everyone stepped up. The most amazing stat to me was zero sacks allowed against a very good defensive front. It was a combination of the offensive line, the quarterback, and the wide receivers playing above their heads.”

Cole Jones contributed the Knights’ other touchdown, rushing for 71 yards on 18 carries.

“The defense showed out,” McCrae added. “Holding that team to just one touchdown is pretty hard to do. And my coaches coached their butts off!”

Deerfield-Windsor (7-2, 3-1) remains in second place in Region 3-AAA behind Tiftarea (7-1, 2-0), which beat Brookwood 35-14 on Friday night. The Knights will conclude the regular season Friday night in Tallahassee against Maclay (4-2), the other team that has beaten Valwood this season.

Lee County 67, Veterans 10

WARNER ROBINS – Lee County’s Ousmane Kromah scored three times in the first half as the No. 2-ranked Trojans built a commanding 32-3 halftime lead and rolled past Veterans 67-10 Friday night in Warner Robins. Lee County remains unbeaten and atop Region 1-AAAAA.

Kromah scored on pass plays of 36 and 60 yards, as well as an 18-yard rushing touchdown in the first half. Jaden Upshaw added another touchdown reception as the Trojans extended their lead before the break.

Quarterback Weston Bryan completed 16 of 22 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. Kromah’s two catches totaled 96 yards, and the senior running back also added 74 rushing yards on seven carries.

Lee County (8-0, 3-0) will return to Warner Robins next Friday night for a matchup with Northside (2-6, 0-3). Northside lost to Thomas County Central 62-0 on Friday night.

Worth County 54, Bacon County 24

ALMA – Worth County sophomore quarterback Lyndon Worthy threw for six touchdowns, completing 23 of 27 passes for 381 yards to lead the Rams to a 54-24 region win over Bacon County Friday night in Alma. Senior wide receiver D’Ontae Fulton, a Georgia State commit, caught 11 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

Bacon County led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Tre’shaun Jones’ touchdown run early in the second quarter put Worth County ahead. Worthy then threw touchdown passes to Fulton and Brandon Powell, giving the Rams a 34-14 halftime lead.

Bacon County’s defense managed to slow Worth County’s rushing attack, limiting the Rams to just 107 yards on the ground, but had no answer for Worthy and the passing game. Worthy connected with seven different receivers during the game.

Worth County (5-3, 3-1) will host Jeff Davis (5-2, 1-2) in Sylvester on Friday night. Jeff Davis had a bye week and did not play Friday night.

Sherwood Christian 58, Fullington Academy 14

PINEHURST – Sherwood Christian quarterback Tripp Roberts set a school record with 553 passing yards and six touchdowns Friday night as the undefeated Eagles cruised to a 58-14 victory over Fullington Academy in Pinehurst.

Roberts completed 26 of 41 passes, setting the school record for passing yards in a game. Collyer Alderman led the receiving corps with 197 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches. Qwinton Murray caught six passes for 163 yards and four touchdowns. Bill Dunwoody added four receptions for 105 yards, and Kane Dupree had four catches for 72 yards.
