The Pelham boys basketball team claimed a close win Friday night, squeezing past Worth County 57-56.

Dewaun Jones led Pelham with 17 points while Kemonterious Byrd added 10.

Pelham’s girls rolled to a 72-31 victory. Mahogany Randall scored 24 points, with Takashi Jenkins adding 20. Kaniya Bryant scored 16 for Worth County.

Dougherty girls top Brooks County

Jah’ne Brown’s 45 points propelled Dougherty to a 77-71 victory over Brooks County on Friday.

With a 28-point second quarter, Dougherty pulled ahead early on the strength of a 13-4 run, eventually boasting a 47-35 lead by halftime.

Brown led Dougherty’s offense, going 18-for-27 from the field while also going 8-of-12 from the line.

Shy’Keria Williams hit double digits, scoring 21 points for Dougherty. Jakaela Dungee had 11 rebounds, Ja’Nadja Williams six rebounds and Erykah Taylor five rebounds.

Dougherty finished the game with 50 rebounds (20 offensive, 30 defensive), five blocks and 16 steals.

Westwood sweeps Southwest Georgia

Westwood’s girls improved to 6-0 and opened GISA Region 3-2A play with an 81-14 win over Southwest Georgia.

Five played scored in double-figures for Westwood, paced by McKenlee Coleman’s 14 points. Gracie Pollock scored 13, Javen Wimberly had 11 points and nine rebounds, while Karlie Jones and Leann Bentley each scored 10 points.

The Westwood boys (2-2, 1-0 region) won 72-57. Jonte Harris hit nine 3-pointers en route to a 42-point night, with Derrick Harris Jr. adding 14 points.

On Thursday, Westwood swept Abbeville (Alabama), with the girls winning 81-27 and the boys prevailing 55-54. Abby Santos led five girls in double-figures with 16 points, with Jones picking up 13 points and eight rebounds, Pollock recording 12 points and six assists, Wimberly scoring 12 points to go along with seven rebounds and Caitlyn Santiago scoring 10 points to go along with five rebounds. Harris scored 14 points in the boys game, with Fletcher Sheffield picking up 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Sherwood Christian prevails

Stantravious Smith scored 43 points and had 19 rebounds in Sherwood Christian’s 70-49 win Thursday over Southwest Georgia.

Colin Dougherty added 14 points. Austin Pickle scored 28 for Southwest Georgia, with Keyshawn Jackson adding 14.

Sherwood Christian’s girls beat Southwest Georgia 45-39 on Thursday. Anna Kendrick led the Eagles with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Ashanti Harrison contributed 10 points and six steals.
