Terrell Academy, Westwood win first-round contests

The Deerfield-Windsor girls basketball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday with a 57-50 loss to Pinewood Christian in the first round of the GISA Class 2A tournament.
Pinewood led 31-29 at halftime.
Rachel Bonner scored 19 points to lead Deerfield Windsor. Macy Pirkle led Pinewood with 14 points, with Abi Oates scoring 13 and Meghan Boatwright adding 10.
Pinewood (23-2) faces Gatewood in the quarterfinals on Friday at John Milledge. Deerfield-Windsor finishes with a 15-11 record.
GISA Class 2A girls
Both Terrell Academy and Westwood won first-round games Tuesday in the GISA Class 2A tournament.
Terrell Academy topped Twiggs Academy 42-28 in a game played at Brentwood. Terrell Academy takes on Brentwood at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Georgia Southwestern in the quarterfinals.
Westwood defeated First Presbyterian Christian 92-12. The Wildcats will take on St. George’s at 7 p.m. on Friday at Georgia Southwestern.
Lee County pitchers team up for no-hitter
Lee County’s Reid Hanson, Zach Parrish and Brian Myler combined for a no-hitter Tuesday as the Trojans’ baseball team defeated Cairo 7-1 in Leesburg.
The Trojans picked up just three hits in the win, drawing base runners on walks and hit batters.
Worth County baseball rolls
Worth County’s baseball team defeated Brooks County 12-2 on Tuesday.
Garrett Kelly’s two-run single in the first inning set the tone for the game, with Worth County adding four runs in the third. Hunter Goodwin went 3-for-4, while DJ Edwards went 2-for-2 with four runs scored.
Gabe Goff struck out 10 in a complete-game victory. Randall Smith took the loss.
Baconton Charter tops Pataula Charter
Baconton Charter’s baseball team defeated Pataula Charter 8-4 on Tuesday.
Grant Smithwick and Smith Pinson each scored two runs, with Smithwick picking up two hits. Stone Pinson had two hits and three RBI.
Smith Pinson earned the victory in relief, throwing three innings of hitless ball. Bo Schwarm struck out the side in the seventh.
Jordan Wiley took the loss.
