Hurricane Irma is causing changes to the area football schedule.
As of mid-Afternoon Friday, at least two high school football game involving Albany-area teams have been postponed. Pataula Charter’s home game against North Bay Haven, a charter school from Panama City, Florida, has been called off because of Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s decision to cancel all scholastic activity statewide.
Pataula Charter head coach Matt Fowler said the schools are trying to work out a make-up date.
Also, Sherwood Christian’s scheduled game Saturday at Lanier Christian has been called off.
Other games in the Albany area are still on as scheduled. As of Friday morning, Deerfield-Windsor’s home game against Westfield will still be played at 7:30 p.m., while Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio said the school will admit those with Florida ID for free to its 7:30 p.m. home game with Americus-Sumter.
Also, Lee County’s cross country meet Saturday morning is still on as scheduled.
The storm has made a significant impact on the college schedule. Florida State announced Thursday night that it was canceling its Saturday home game with Louisiana-Monroe, joining Florida in its decision earlier in the day to call off its game with Northern Colorado.
Friday afternoon, Valdosta State announced that its game Saturday against Fort Valley State in Waycross has been cancelled.
No changes have been announced as of Friday afternoon for Albany State’s game Saturday against Tuskegee in Phenix City, Alabama. It is still scheduled for a 5 p.m. start, with the game streamed at ESPN3.com.
