LEESBURG — One of Georgia’s top playmakers is headed to College Station.

Lee County standout wide receiver Jaden Upshaw announced Wednesday evening that he has committed to Texas A&M Aggies, choosing the Aggies over a final group that included Florida Gators football, Miami Hurricanes football and Alabama Crimson Tide football.

Upshaw made the announcement inside Lee County’s multipurpose building overlooking Trojan Field, surrounded by family, friends and teammates.

The 6-foot-1, 196-pound rising senior is one of the most sought-after prospects in the state, holding 32 Division I offers. According to 247Sports, Upshaw is rated as the No. 5 overall prospect in Georgia and the No. 12 wide receiver in the nation.

For Upshaw, the decision ultimately came down to a feeling that started months ago and never faded.

“Ever since I went out there for the Florida game, it always felt like home,” Upshaw said. “The atmosphere was crazy — probably the biggest crowd I’ve ever been in. I hadn’t been back since November, but they were still showing love, even last weekend. They talked about calling it home, and I was ready.”

That connection led to a quiet decision long before Wednesday’s public announcement.

Upshaw said he informed Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko of his commitment nearly two months ago, choosing to keep the news private until making it official in front of the Lee County community.

A dynamic receiver with size, speed and big-play ability, Upshaw has been a key piece of Lee County’s offense and is expected to play a major role again this fall as the Trojans chase another deep postseason run.
