Jon Durham, Deerfield-Windsor cross country teams shine at state

The Deerfield-Windsor cross country teams capped a successful season Saturday with their final race, the Class A Private championship meet in Carrollton.

Paced by senior Jon Durham’s 10th-place finish individually, the Knights were ninth in the boys team standings. Durham finished the hilly course in 17 minutes, 24 seconds, and teammate Garrison Slaughter, a sophomore, was 26th in 18:14. They were backed up by teammates Jackson Belusko (81st, 19:36) and Ethan Newsome (98th, 19:56).

The Deerfield-Windsor girls finished 12th behind top finishes from senior Bailey Irvin (38th, 22:40) and junior Jane Strickland (44th, 22:50). Sophie Singleton (71st, 23:41) and Molly Fuller (91st, 24:21) also finished in the top 100.

In Saturday’s AAAAAA meet in Carrollton, Lee County’s girls team was 25th and the Trojan boys were 30th behind Timothy Ellis (100th, 18:25).
